After launching the ‘PickMi’ pick up and drop after sales service in India, Xiaomi is now introducing an insurance service called the ‘Mi Protect’.
This insurance service is for Xiaomi smartphone and tablet users, and is set to be launched sometime next week.
As a part of this service, Xiaomi users will be able to avail a range of services that is meant to protect their devices.
In case your device is stolen, you will be able to block your SIM card from anywhere in the world, and will also be entitled to a SIM ‘misuse insurance’ cover of up to Rs 3,000.Furthermore, there is also an insurance cover for accidental damages and even liquid damage. If your device falls in liquid, gets spoiled in rain, falls on a hard ground, or gets sat on, you can claim for the damage.
The cover will depend upon the device as well as the plan. The insurance cover will be provided by OneAssist, which is partnering Xiaomi for this service.
The aforementioned PickMi service, which is usually priced at Rs 189, will be offered free for those opting for the Mi Protect service.
It also offers assistance to new smartphone users, and will help users with a range of tasks like configuring emails, manage display brightness, language, fonts, and ringtones among others.
Lastly, there is a service called ‘Docusafe’, which lets users store documents online. Users will be able to store documents and will be given a space of 1GB.

In case your device is damaged, you can contact Xiaomi by calling on 1800 407 333 333/ 1800 123 3330 / 0 8080 333 333.
Once you have explained the damage to your device, a Xiaomi Mi Protect team will visit you to access the damage. After the assessment, the team will initiate the claim verification and free-repair process.
As for pricing, Redmi 2 and Redmi 2 Prime users can buy the insurance cover for Rs 275, while Mi 4 16GB, Mi 4i 16GB and Mi Pad users can opt for it for Rs 499.
The cover is valid for one year, and is only applicable on smartphones and tablets that have been bought from mi.com.
Xiaomi also offers a similar service via its exclusive service centers, but the pricing differs.
Xiaomi Redmi 1s, Redmi 2, and Redmi 2 Prime users need to pay Rs 425, while the Redmi Note 4G users need to pay Rs 549.
Xiaomi Mi 4 users have to pay Rs 899 for the 16GB variant, or Rs 999 for the 64GB variant. Lastly, Mi 4i and Mi 3 users have to pay Rs 749.
