health-insure-bcclI am 84 years old. I am diabetic, have undergone hip replacement and by-pass surgery. My wife is 73 years old and has no health complaints. We are looking for a high-value insurance at high premium. Kindly suggest an insurance company and the best plans available.

In your case, considering your age, your diabetic condition and given that you have undergone hip replacement and by-pass surgery, it may be difficult for you to search for health insurance.

You may need to get in touch with few insurance companies who would individually take a decision pertaining to your insurance proposal in line with their underwriting guidelines.

With regards to your wife, an insurance policy is more feasible, though a medical screening report may be required taking her age into consideration.

In terms of the insurance company, you can approach any insurance company that offers plans for senior citizens and accepts proposals with pre-existing diseases as applicable in your case .

I have a family floater from a public sector insurance company of Rs 3 lakh. My mother aged 82 was hospitalised in ICU. The insurer deducted claims payout and paid only 45% of the amount sanctioned to me. Should we proceed to consumer forum in the matter?

In this case, I would advise that you first go through the policy terms and conditions once again in detail to understand the reason for the deduction.

Your insurance plan may have co-pay or sub-limit option inbuilt in the plan.

You may also have claimed for expenses from the non-payable list of items which would have been deducted by the insurer while settling the claim.

In case these conditions are not applicable for you, I suggest that you get a clarification from your insurance company.

If you do not get a satisfactory response from your insurer, you can then consider taking further course of action.

I am a 29 year-old married woman from Noida. I want to buy a health insurance. Please suggest me what plan to buy. I can pay premium of Rs 4,000-Rs 6,000 annually.

It is prudent on your part to be considering buying a health insurance policy at a young age.

With the increase in occurrence of lifestyle diseases and multifaceted responsibilities, medical exigencies can strike us at any age.

Having a health insurance policy is both feasible and beneficial as when you compare the cost of treatment and premium you have to pay for the policy every year.
The latter is less than the former. I would suggest that you opt for a comprehensive health insurance plan.
Given your age bracket, a comprehensive health insurance policy with sum insured of Rs 4 lakh would work out to a premium of about Rs 6,000.
