After giving themselves a three-fold pay hike in August this year, Maharashtra’s lawmakers will now get free medical insurance.
The state government has decided to launch a group insurance scheme for serving as well as former legislators. Tenders have been floated for appointment of the broker for the exercise.
According to the proposal, an insurance broker to provide consultancy support for cashless medical insurance scheme for sitting and former MLAs and MLCs with their families will be appointed.
Principal Secretary, Legislature Secretariat, Anant Kalse however stressed that the state would not bear any financial burden by appointing a broker.
He said, The tender has already been floated. We will appoint only those brokers who are authorised to deal all over India.
These brokers will get us proposals from insurance companies and we will choose the best ones.
A proper MoU will be signed between the state government, the broker and the shortlisted company. Any issues that come up will be then dealt by the broker.
